Complete set of Pokémon Red and Blue-era trading cards sell for $107k
Forget Pokémon Go. This is Pokémon green.
A complete set of Pokémon Red and Blue-era trading cards were just auctioned off for $107,010. The set is a first edition from 1999 and every card has a PSA Gem Mint 10 rating, meaning it's virtually perfect.
The lot sold for the six-figure price on Goldin Auctions' website. Its description places the Pokémon cards in an elite class -- comparing the set's importance to collections that include Michael Jordan's rookie card or the holy grail of sports cards, the 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner tobacco card that sold as recently as last May for $1.2 million.
As for standouts in the Pokémon Go lot, that would be the #4 Charizard. The auction house claims that in 2016, one of those sold for around $26,000.
In all, there are 103 cards in the set. Time to start checking your attic, millennials...
