Dine-and-dasher at drive-thru window claims God's paying the bill

Updated: Jul 29, 2019

Feeling hungry?  Short on cash?  Let God pay the bill.

That's what Delila Hernandez tried to do Monday.  According to the Las Cruces Sun News, the 30-year-old rode her bike up to the drive-thru window at Sonic and ordered a meal. When the cashier asked for payment, Hernandez allegedly responded, "This one's on God."

"That's not how this works," the restaurant server replied, whereupon he claims Hernandez attempted to attack him when he wouldn't give her the meal. Fearing for his safety, he relented.  And then called police.

Police found Hernandez in a nearby park, scarfing down her Sonic.  She later allegedly told officials she knew what she'd done was wrong but that she was "starving."

Hernandez was arrested and charged with felony robbery by prosecutors say at most she'll probably face a significantly reduced charge and maybe a fine.

And she'll have to pay Sonic for the food she stole.  No passing the buck to God this time.
