Grand Chute Police search for stray kangaroo

Kangaroos hopping along pedestrian pathways is nothing unusual -- in Australia.  But Wisconsin?

A driver on Interstate 41 in Grand Chute, Wisconsin Monday morning reported a kangaroo hopping across a walking bridge over the highway.

The caller reported the kangaroo sighting shortly before 7 a.m.  Officers responded but didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

The Grand Chute Police later tweeted, "Crikey, officers wandered the bush and thicket looking for signs of the joey, but were unsuccessful. It would appear that the kangaroo had... wait for it… hopped along."

Believe it or not, kangaroo sightings have happened before in northeast Wisconsin. In November, a young kangaroo named Lulu escaped from a home in Shawano County.  Unfortunately, it was struck and killed by a pickup truck.
