Man in clown attire arrested after hour-long police chase
A man wearing a clown costume, mask and a green wig and hanging out the sunroof of a car led authorities on a slow-speed pursuit from Orange County to Venice Beach, California before being taken into custody on Saturday, reports Fox 5 San Diego.
The bizarre incident started around 3 p.m. in Westminster, according to California Highway Patrol officials. CHP Officer Stephan Brandt said they received a report about a clown hanging out on the sunroof of a car while driving.
The officer said that the driver refused to stop the car when officers attempted to pull him over. So they followed him until he made it to Venice Beach, at which point the clown jumped out of the car and ran onto the beach. Once there, the suspect took off his shirt and colorful clown jacket before kneeling on the sand and waiting to be arrested. He was taken into custody by officers in front of a crowd of appreciative onlookers.
Only the clown was arrested, Brandt said. A female passenger who had been riding in the car was not.
