Man prys open alligator's jaws to rescue pet dog

When you're a pet owner, you'll do almost anything for your beloved pet.

Case in point: a Sarasota County, Florida man jumped into a canal behind his house in Nokomis on Thursday to rescue his dog after an alligator snatched it, reports WWSB.

As soon as the unidentified man hit the water he "pried open the gator's jaws" to rescue his beloved chocolate lab from the reptile, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials. And amazingly, he succeeded.

An officer with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told WWSB that although the homeowner and the dog both had minor bite injuries, "Both will be fine." He added, "There's a happy ending to this one. They don't always happen that way."

This was no itty bitty gator, either.  A trapper headed called to the scene Friday captured the gator, which measured nine feet and nine inches long.
