New Internet craze: stapling bread to trees
Hungry for a sandwich? Need some bread? Just check that tree over there.
As reported by the U.K. newspaper The Star, people are going around the city of Sheffield, England and stapling slices of bread to trees.
And yes, residents of the city are just as confused as you are.
"This week the trees on the north side of the road have been decorated by persons unknown with slices of white bread which have been stapled in place," one person told to The Star. "Is this part of some weird new cult?"
Cult may be a strong word but there is a "Bread Stapled to Trees" sub-Reddit with 187,000 followers and lots of photos of bread stapled to trees. All kids of bread. White, wheat, pita, baguettes, brioche, hot dog buns, even pizza.
At least the local squirrels seem to be loving it.
