Music History for Monday, 9/9/19
2014 - Primal Scream guitarist Robert "Throb" Young died at the age of 49.
1992 - Krist Novoselic smacks himself in the head with a bass he'd tossed in the air during a live Nirvanaperformance at the MTV Video Music Awards. He later admitted to faking that he'd knocked himself out because he was so embarrassed about it.
1989 - New Kids on the Block scored their second #1 single with "Hangin' Tough."
1977 - David Bowie appeared with Marc Bolan and they performed a duet of "Heroes." The show ended with the pair playing "Next to You," even as Bolan accidentally fell off the stage, cracking Bowie up. The pair recorded separately, though their work wasn't finished as Bolan was killed in a car crash a week after their TV performance.
1965 - A casting call ran in The Hollywood Reporter looking for "madness folk" for a musical TV show. Hundreds applied, but from that pool were plucked Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork. They became better known as The Monkees.
